Foot Care Tips For Healthy Feet

If your feet aren't healthy, it can cause all types of problems for you. Having problems walking because your feet aren't healthy can be a big issue. Think about how often you get up to walk, or how far you walk in a day. If you have foot issues due to unhealthy feet, the simplest of tasks can be difficult to accomplish. To help keep your feet healthy there are a number of things you can do. Read on for tips to keep your feet healthy.

Keep Your Feet Dry

If your feet are moist it can cause problems such as athlete's foot, blisters or peeling skin on your feet. Your feet may be moist due to sweating or from not drying your feet well enough. If your feet are moist, no matter the reason, you need to be sure they stay dry. Invest in moisture wicking socks, wear breathable shoes, and dry your feet thoroughly after showering or swimming. Remember to get in between the toes where fungus and bacteria can grow quickly. If you need to, change your socks often if you have sweaty feet (even with moisture wicking socks).

Invest In New Shoes

Old shoes can be harsh on your feet. They may still look great, but they may not have enough support left in them. Wearing old shoes can cause a problem for your feet, as they may be stretched out, or the cushion is too worn in them. This can cause pain in your feet, especially in the arch or heel. Older shoes can also lose support around the ankle if they are too worn out. Invest in new shoes if the ones you are wearing are too old.

Clip Toenails Appropriately

When clipping your toenails, be sure to do so appropriately. Your toenails should be clipped straight across, not at an angle. Clipping your nails at an angle will end up giving you ingrown toenails. Ingrown toenails can be painful. You may have swelling on the sides of your toes and if they are infected, you may also notice puss. Clip your toenails straight across and prevent this type of pain. If you do have an ingrown toenail, don't attempt to clip it or dig into your skin to remove the ingrown nail. This could cause further problems for you.

Keep your feet healthy and prevent pain and health issues by taking good care of your feet. If you have a problem with your feet, seek help from a podiatrist to be treated and for other helpful foot care tips. To learn more, contact a podiatry clinic like Scola Podiatry.
